The Vienna International School is absolutely amazing! I had never thought about interning in an international school setting before this opportunity. The level of diversity brought to the table is outstanding. The rules and regulations are very different and it seems like a more relaxing environment. There is not even a dress code there! They have made their own standards and goals. The inquiry based lesson planning is so academically pushing the students to engage in learning in a way that works for them. The classroom environment is just beautifully fun and relaxing as well.
The VEX Robotics critical thinking workshops were amazing. Students were so interested in robotics! They were truly challenged to think critically and problem solve as a team. With the team we had working together, the students were able to work in smaller groups, but still have a nice teaching-intern to student ratio. Teaching robotics to these students was an eye opening experience. I have had my feet wet with robotics in the past, but it was at the Vienna International school where I truly saw the academic potential robotics held. These students were so engaged in the workshops. They were problem solving, critical thinking, and even working as a team to do it. With the building of the VEX Robots, these elements seemed to come so naturally.
I learned that I want my future classroom to be relaxing in a way that students feel comfortable opening their minds to new ways of learning. I want to unlock their levels of diversity and push them to do all I know they can do. I have gained so much from this trip and you will too! It is by far the best thing I have ever pursued.
